KPF Design in Detail Monograph
The creative brief was to dispel a common misconception about KPF—that we are primarily designers of supertall towers—and instead celebrate the firm’s varied projects through their well-crafted details. Following a successful touring exhibition and lecture series focused on the theme of craft within KPF projects, we developed and refined content for distribution to a wider audience as a limited edition printed book, distributed to key clients, and available to purchase.
An in-depth look at 14 iconic buildings, Design in Detail reveals how the overall design concept is realized down to the smallest scale with crafted elements such as custom-glazed terra cotta tiles, cast bronze art, and carved blocks of stone. The volume showcases KPF’s commitment to design excellence down to the finest detail and emphasizes the fabrication and computational methods architects use to help solve contemporary design challenges at scale. Offering over 200 pages of project inspiration, including detailed sketches, diagrams, and photographs, Design in Detail pulls back the curtain on the process that defines KPF’s architectural practice. The result is a thoughtful demonstration of what it takes to design high-quality and contextually sensitive buildings.
Part of our goal in producing the book was to create a well-crafted object to match our thesis. Choices of printing method, binding, cover cloth, and paper reflect the quality design of the contents within. Hand-finished by Italian fine art book printers, Design in Detail reinforces the fact that in a digital world, tactile design is as important as ever.

The marketing objective was primarily brand building, positioning the firm as more than designers of 6 of the world’s 12 tallest towers. Narrative case studies offer an inside look at the architectural process and reveal the iterative design decisions that bring a project to life, reinforcing KPF’s expertise in delivering complex projects that are well-crafted in material and detail. The firm printed 2,000 copies for $50,000 and measured success by client response and brand awareness.
KPF has published broad surveys of work in monographs created with Rizzoli, but this was the first self-publication effort, and the first on a focused theme. We primarily looked to art and museum publishers, drawing inspiration from fine cloth and paper materials of these books to complement the topic of our publication, architectural craft. We tested the content with audiences of an exhibition and lecture series that travelled through China and South America. Throughout these events, KPF refined and expanded the narrative case studies, ultimately self-publishing the book in collaboration with an Italian fine art book printer using hand-finished methods.
Design in Detail asks readers to consider KPF’s architecture through the lens of craft, viewing large-scale projects through their smallest details. Opening with historical context of architectural making, the book focuses on contemporary design challenges, asking readers to consider how today’s fabrication and computational methods reflect the artistry of designers.

"If Buildings Could Talk" Children’s Book
Buildings protect us, help us, and inspire us, but do you ever wonder what they would say if they could talk? Do they have feelings? Are they happy to see us? Does it hurt when we stomp?
At Little, we are constantly searching for opportunities to elevate growth, curiosity, and our hope for the future. We feel there's no better way to create those opportunities than by inspiring our youth. That's why some of our most talented creatives came together to write and illustrate “If Buildings Could Talk,” an imaginative children's book that contemplates what would happen if the buildings that surround us suddenly piped up to tell us what’s on their minds. The book serves as a great way to inspire STEAM education, with a specific focus on the AEC industry, and even includes a fun, engaging activity at the end. The 5-star rated book has been professionally published and produced and is available for purchase. In addition to proceeds supporting local mentoring programs, 100 hard copies were donated to underserved schools and children's hospitals nationwide to help spark a passion for design in future generations.
Developed as part of Little’s annual New Year’s greeting, the objective was to bring everyday buildings to life in unexpected ways. Intended to inspire future generations, the book was also developed as a gift to clients, a conference give-away and a way to connect with communities. It was written and illustrated in two-months and had an initial budget of $2500, covering the printing of 100 donated books. To date, over 700 copies have been sold.
The main target audience was those interested in creating hope for the future by impacting the life of a young person. A digital version of the book was distributed to approximately 10,000 clients/friends of the firm, while 100 hard copies were donated to schools and children's hospitals across the U.S.
It's no secret that the A/E/C industry has been a predominantly male and white profession. “If Buildings Could Talk” is centered around the value of STEAM education, starting at an early age, in hopes of inspiring a diverse pipeline of future designers and builders. The proceeds from the book also aim to impact the future of the industry by targeting local mentoring programs such as ACE Mentor Program. Using Ingram Sparks, a self-publishing platform, the book was produced. One-hundred copies were given free of charge to local schools and children’s hospitals while a larger shipment was made available through Amazon.
This book aims to spark curiosity in younger generations by encouraging them to think differently about the buildings/spaces they experience. Buildings teach us about interlacing cultures, testing imaginations, improving health and productivity, and providing meaningful destinations. It uncovers stories of how the design of everyday spaces positively impact our lives.

2022 Galapadooza Remix
The 2022 Galapadooza Remix Event was a huge success in connecting our employees from 13 offices for several events during one epic weekend. Due to the impact of COVID-19, this event was postponed from 2020 to 2022, and it was a 60-year anniversary celebration.
Pre-event communications included anything from the venue/hotel reservation information to outfit inspiration emails with real-life examples. Each attendee received a welcome bag upon arriving at their hotel. We utilized the “Yapp App” for quick and easily accessible information for weekend details. This app also allowed attendees to connect and post pictures during the events. Friday evening was hosted at the House of Blues, and Saturday evening at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Both events included food, beverages, and additional entertainment comprised of magicians, a fortune teller, dueling pianos, photo booths, live music, etc. – we had something for everyone. There were different Snapchat filters created for each day for patrons to use.
Additionally, several breakout events were offered on Saturday during the daytime before the evening event. These breakout events included a tour of Progressive Field, Brewery Tours, and a Funny Bus Comedy Tour. Furthermore, the attention to detail in our branding for this event was notable. From the color scheme to the logo, all our materials were marketed in an eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing manner.
The intended message of this event was to celebrate the meaningful history of GPD and to provide an opportunity for our employees from 13 offices nationwide (and their plus 1s) to connect in person. This specific messaging reinforces and celebrates our most important company attribute; our employees.
