About the Chief Executive Officer
Marci D. Thompson, DES
Alongside our HQ team, she champions the interests of A/E/C growth professionals, which include marketers, firm leaders, and business developers. Marci provides strategic guidance and leadership for best-in-class member experiences and programming.
As the fiscal year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the journey we have undertaken since I stepped into the interim CEO role and now as your CEO. This past year has been marked by transformative change, valuable learning, attentive listening, and notable achievements, making me incredibly proud of all we’ve accomplished together.
When I accepted this role, I emphasized the importance of moving "Forward Together." That message resonates even more strongly today as I witness the strength, creativity, and resilience of our SMPS community. In an industry that evolves at a rapid pace, we have not only kept up but often led the way. We’ve accomplished this by embracing change, uplifting one another, and staying true to our mission of empowering marketing professionals to drive business success within the A/E/C industries.
This year, we’ve launched new initiatives that provide our members with the tools they need to thrive in a complex business environment. From new research by the SMPS Foundation to our expanded educational offerings for business developers, innovative resources, and a continued focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, SMPS remains at the forefront of industry advancement. Together, we’ve demonstrated that there are no limits to what we can achieve.
Our success is not defined solely by our programs or milestones; it is reflected in the stories of our members—their growth, achievements, and the impact they have on their organizations. Each of you has played a role in moving us forward, and for that, I am deeply grateful.
Looking ahead, the spirit of "Forward Together" will continue to guide us. The challenges of tomorrow will call for even more innovation, collaboration, and mutual support. I am confident we will rise to these challenges as we have this year. Together, we will build on our successes, explore new opportunities, and continue to elevate SMPS as a leader in the A/E/C industries.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Board of Directors, the SMPS Headquarters staff, our dedicated volunteers, valued industry partners, and most importantly, our members. Your passion, commitment, and belief in the power of marketing to transform businesses have been the driving force behind our achievements this year.
"Forward Together" is not just a message; it is a commitment to listen and understand. To that end, I invite you to join me this fall for my office hours—a virtual meetup where members are welcome to ask questions, share ideas, and discuss challenges.
As we close this chapter and look forward to the next, I am filled with optimism and enthusiasm for what lies ahead. The future of SMPS is bright, and I am honored to lead us as we continue to move "Forward Together."
