In my previous Marketer column, I wrote about attending Amplify A|E|C this July, where we’ll lead from every seat and continue to innovate. Being able to lead from every seat is crucial. But what if we also lead from every season?
What do I mean by leading from every season? In addition to framing leadership around a particular job level or title, we get involved based on what drives and interests us at that moment. This allows us to gain skills and life lessons at various times of our lives.
From these lessons, we form lasting relationships. We get better at collaborating and listening to ideas. Ultimately, we build compassion and empathy, something I witnessed at the Society’s Chapter Leadership Symposium (CLS) this past April. At CLS, attendees shared their knowledge, tackled challenges, and gained insight and strategies from SMPS HQ staff. From varied viewpoints to inspirational keynotes, leadership wasn’t just a theme. It was an action.
Experiencing CLS confirmed what I’ve known for a long time: Every leadership moment provides a learning opportunity on our never-ending journey to evolve. So, take those chances to lead from every seat and season, and if you’re not already, you’ll soon be leading by example.
