As we begin a new fiscal year at SMPS, my thoughts turn to the fall season. I think about the weather changing, becoming cooler, and a new landscape emerging. I also reflect on how we grow and evolve over time. We are not the same person we were at 17 years old. We may not even be the same person we were a year ago. Despite our evolution, one of the key characteristics that remains constant is our core values.
When I reflect on my core values, I think about grace, curiosity, and vulnerability. Our ability to create dialogue and community with others is a critical component to understanding our own belief system as well as exploring another person’s point of view. That is why grace, curiosity, and vulnerability are my core values. I’m excited to lean in with curiosity to better understand someone else’s ideals, am open to being vulnerable and transparent when hard questions are asked, and seek to extend grace to others and myself knowing that we don’t always get everything right the first time around.
What are your core values? How do you live them? Living your core values is not about being perfect but about taking chances along the way and learning as we go. Even when I stumble, my SMPS family encourages me to be a risk taker, a lifelong learner, and be open to new ideas. For this, I am grateful. After all, we are perfectly imperfect, and that’s okay.
